He had great stories and really cared about his critters. He was a vet, with issues like so many, but he said he was raised on a farm and formed a connection working with the exotic animals which in turn helped him find peace He was kind of a cross between Jack Hannah and Marlin Perkins (remember Mutual of Omaha's WIld Kingdom back in the day?) and was a true kangaroo whisperer. Just talking to the guy in charge there was worth the admission. Skipped the last animal presentation of the day because it was so cold and because we wanted to be sure to see the kangaroos before the scheduled time of our cave tour. We went on past a lot of birds (not my favorite part of the animal kingdom) and some wolves who seemed to be trying to remind us that if they got out we would be below them on the food chain. Wife stopped there and called me back to see the arctic fox and was delighted to see a giant tortoise. ![]() Walked up the hill and I passed right by one building. ![]() Wife saw snakes and turtles on display there and warmed up to the idea, although the outside temperature sure didn't. ![]() However, I made them get out of the car and paid our admission to the zoo and the cave. You also cannot see the animal exhibits from the lot, just a dreary entrance/souvenir building and some trees carved into animal images, a kangaroo and two or three others. They woke up when I pulled into the Kentucky Down Under, and were really not impressed as the large gravel parking lot across from a large truck stop was empty except for about three other cars. Wife and son had been snoozing while I drove across Kentucky.
